The same owner of Cafe Des Artistes also owns Tuna Blanco in Punta Mita, so we definitely wanted to check this restaurant during our visit.

We were seated on the patio overlooking the ocean which was super romantic and beautiful. We asked for tap water but were served bottled water, so we learned after that in Punta Mita you need to ask for filtered water (the tap water is not safe to drink). Be careful at restaurants because this has happened to us many times where they try to bring and charge you for bottled water after you ask for tap water!

I had a hibiscus margarita and GL has the Tuna Blanca. The Tuna Blanca drink was incredible and I wished I had chosen it! Such a unique flavor with the prickly pear and unlike any other cocktails we have had. I liked my margarita though I did find the charcoal salt to be a little too coarse and intense.

To start, we tried the quinoa salad, the tuna, and the piglet taco. I loved the quinoa salad and thought it was simple but with great flavours that paired well. The tuna was covered in a lot of sauce that we felt sort of overwhelmed the dish. The piglet taco was so juicy and flavorful but there was only one and it is not easy to split a taco!

For mains I chose the shrimp and GL had the octopus. The shrimp is prepared right in front of you (see the fire photos!) and grilled on hot rocks. The shrimp was succulent and the shrimp themselves were a generous size. And it was so fun and unique to see them prepared in front of you!

GL loved his octopus and said it was super soft and not rubbery at all. You can tell when you are having an ill prepared octopus as it will be rubbery and hard to chew, when it should be soft and tender. Octopus is super common on menus here compared to Canada so it has been fun to eat more octopus!

For dessert we had some sort of plantain croquet that was supposed to be gluten and dairy free though I’m not convinced it was. Regardless it was tasty and I just tried not to have much of the cream surrounding it!

Tuna Blanco Punta Mita was a great restaurant that is worth trying if you are in Punta Mita and looking for a more high end experience.
