Taco Cabana Nuevo Vallarta is a fun and casual taco bar to check out in Nuevo Vallarta. The setting is quite cute and pretty though be warned there are mosquitos so bring some repellent (or the restaurant can provide some as well).
They have a unique drink menu – I tried the rojo mezcal while GL tried the aqua fresca. I liked my drink but again am learning that mezcal isn’t my favorite liquor so I need to keep that in mind for the future! The aqua fresca was some sort of pineapple flavour. It was super refreshing without being overly sweet.
We split the guac to start which came with plantain chips which was a nice change from tortilla chips. The guac was fresh and tangy. I had the aquachili tostada and GL had the tostada huichol. They were huge portions and we both had to take some home. Mine was quite spicy, almost too spicy for me and I’m not sure tostadas are my favorite. I would rather have a soft taco than the hard tostado. Mine was very similar to ceviche on top of a toasted tortilla. A bit strange to eat with a fork and knife.
GL’s has a dark sauce on it that was similar to teriyaki which didn’t really pair well with the seafood in his dish. I tried it and agreed. This sauce seems to be popular in Mexico but neither of us really enjoy it.
That being said, we would definitely come back to Taco Cabana Nuevo Vallarta for another dish and for the great drinks and guac. Staff were super friendly and accommodating to any dietary questions which was also a huge plus and very appreciated.
