After a busy weekend with work, Gluten Lips and I headed out for a Sunday stroll with dinner in mind. The place we originally wanted to go was fully booked, so we started our walk and brainstormed where we could go. We eventually landed on Stanley Park Brewing Restaurant & Brewpub, which neither of us had been to before. There used to be a fish restaurant at this location years ago, but about 2 years ago this new Brew Pub opened and we were excited to test it out!
We were seated after about a brief 15 minute wait. The inside of the restaurant is spacious and fully remodeled. Apparently it took about 2 years to remodel the space from the previous restaurant.
There were no mocktails on the menu so we asked the server if they had any and he said they would come up with a couple different drinks based on some of the cocktails we pointed to. Gluten Lips received some sort of raspberry lemonade and mine was grapefruit and soda with maybe grenadine? Both were nice and light and not too sweet. Perfect refreshing mocktails for a hot evening!
All of the gluten and dairy free items on the menu were labelled which is always a huge help. We decided on the chicken tenders and fries and the chips, salsa and guacamole to start.
I haven’t had chicken tenders in years so I was excited for these! They use some sort of gluten free panko and they tasted just as I remember chicken tender tasting – crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The honey mustard and sweet and sour dipping sauces also paired well. The fries were standard fare but good. Maybe not the most exciting dish for most, but for anyone who is gluten free – these are great and highly recommended!
The chips, salsa and guac were also tasty. We wondered if the chips were freshly made as they still seemed slightly warm. The salsa seemed fresh and had a bit of heat and the guac was pretty simple without many seasonings but it hit the spot.
For mains, we shared the garden supreme vegan pizza with gluten free crust and the beef dip with a gluten free bun and a salad.
The pizza sounded strange to me, but I was willing to try it. It had cauliflower cream sauce, roasted corn, jalapeño, pickled red onions, charred broccoli, crispy kale, and vegan ranch. Seemed like a very usual combination of ingredients, but it was actually so good! Very interesting flavours that paired really well together. GL couldn’t believe the crust was gluten free. This pizza was a lot smaller than the regular pizzas we saw at other tables, but this is usually the case with gluten free crusts unfortunately. Otherwise we loved this pizza and would have it again!
The beef dip was disappointing. It was shredded beef more like pulled pork style and the GF bun was super soggy and kept falling apart under the weight of the meat. Maybe with the normal bun this would have been tastier but I would not get it again with a gluten free bun. The salad was simple but delicious with arugula, cranberries and some sort of homemade vinaigrette.
Overall, great service and atmosphere and good food at Stanley Park Brewing Restaurant & Brewpub. We are clearly not beer drinkers, but I’m sure the beer is good too! We will be back to try more items on the menu!
