It was a hot summer’s night and on our evening walk we were close to an ice cream place I’ve been wanting to try called Rain on Shine (Cambie location). I don’t get to eat ice cream out very often and I knew they had vegan options so I couldn’t resist.
They had all of their vegan options listed and I chose the salted coconut fudge. Because of Covid you can’t see or test the ice cream before so I didn’t know exactly what I would get. I was thinking it would be a vanilla ice cream with fudge marbling, but it was actually a chocolate ice cream.
The ice cream was super creamy and you would never know it’s vegan. The salt gave the ice cream a sweet and savoury vibe which was super delicious. It melted what seemed to be faster than regular ice cream so you had to be careful to not let any drip down the cone
They also had gluten free cones for an extra cost (I think they should be free, why should we have to pay more for our allergy?!) which I added. It was a prepared cone out of a box from a store so it wasn’t homemade but it was still tasty.
I will say the vegan options were quite limited. They must have had 20 regular flavours but only three vegan flavours, two of which were sorbet. I much prefer creamy ice cream, especially in a cone, so that only left one option for me. It would be great if they could have a few more vegan flavours on the menu, both regular and sorbet.
They also indicated when items on the menu had gluten or alcohol which is super helpful for those with different allergies or preferences.
Overall a great cone and I will definitely be back, hopefully to try new flavours!
