Dinner at Nuba Gastown

It was Friday night and we were out running errands and thought why not grab dinner afterwards. The annual “Dine Out” feast was on at all restaurants which can make it hard to get a reso on a Friday night. We checked Nuba in Gastown and they had space so there we went.

We decided to go with the dine out menu (each getting exactly the same thing): appetizer of king oyster mezze, entre of grilled bison flat iron, and dessert of chocolate ma’amoule.

I had a lemonade to drink while Gluten Lips had the ginger kombucha. Both were nice and not too sweet. The kombucha was pretty basic like what you could buy in a store so I don’t know if we would get that again here.

The oyster mushrooms were so tasty! The seasoning was very subtle. They provided a wedge of lemon which I squeezed on mine, while Gluten Lips preferred his without. Nice meaty-ness to the mushrooms and excellent flavour.

The bison was SO GOOD. The baharat seasoning was such an interesting flavour on steak. I predominantly tasted turmeric and cardamom. We opted for roasted potatoes since the mashed potatoes had cream. Those were perfect though I would have liked a sauce. Simple green salad was nice too.

The dessert was incredible. We were expecting an oreo like cookie but they were more of a power ball. Not too sweet and the mint, strawberry and orange garnishes paired perfectly.

Overall a great meal and different from the usual offerings at Nuba.
