When we were driving to Punta Mita we saw a number of road signs saying the distance to Hector’s Kitchen Punta Mita. You know those green and white road signs that tell you the distance to the next town or city? I have never seen a restaurant on one of these signs, so we thought this place must be good!
This restaurant is tucked in an alcove off the main beach area where you find most restaurants. The interior was very modern and unique though in some ways it didn’t feel that upscale to me.
To drink I had the Marea Rosa and GL had the Good Bunny. His tasted like a carrot margarita in a good way and mine was just so fresh and fruity and honestly I still think about and crave this cocktail. I would get this again in a heartbeat!
First they brought out an amuse bouche which was a seafood soup. It felt super rich and flavorful. For starters we had the tomato requeson and the pork belly taco. When ordering we learned requeson is a homemade mexican cheese like cottage cheese so we omited that. The salad was nice but definitely missing something that I’m sure the cheese would have completed. We love the pork belly taco but there was just one so that was hard to share. Next time we would each get one! The pork is super lean and the sauces and seasoning are out of this world.
For mains I had the green curry with red snapper and GL had the octopus. I loved my curry as it was nice to have a different sort of cuisine in Mexico since we have been having a lot of the same sorts of cuisine. They provided a small side of rice though not enough in my opinion. GL said his octopus was among the best he has had.
For dessert we had the chocolate almond popsicle which was fully gluten and dairy free. It’s so rare to find a delicious GF and DF dessert that isn’t sorbet on a menu so we made sure to thank them for that. It was so creamy and delicious and I guess healthy too with the avocado! I also dream about this dessert.
Hector’s Kitchen Punta Mita is an incredible restaurant and a must try when in Punta Mita. The chef Hector even went around to some tables and seemed to know many of the guests. Our waiter later told us Hector will even come to the table and if you have certain dietary restrictions he can make you a special dish not on the menu based on what you like. We would love to try that next time!
