Hacienda San Angel Puerto Vallarta – one of my favorite restaurants in PVR. From the setting, to the service, to the food, to the music, everything about this dining experience is magical.
We have been here before and couldn’t wait to return. We always book a table close to sunset and request a table near the edge. Nothing beats a sunset from this beautiful patio.
We both had incredible drinks (marg for me and another cocktail recommended by the waiter for GL) and there were so many great sounding dishes we couldn’t decide on just one. So we tried a little of everything!
So start we had the scallops, mussels and tuna. The scallops were so fresh and the arugula was such a nice pairing. The mussels had a beautiful sauce and I could have eaten the entire portion to myself. The tuna was so fresh and soft and despite being raw, we did not detect even a hint of fishiness. Any of these dishes are sure to please.
For mains, I had the filet mignon and GL had the lobster. To date, my filet mignon is the best steak I have had in PVR. I have tried steak at a couple places since and nothing has compared. It was prepared perfectly (I like medium to medium-well) and was just so tender and juicy. My only complaint was it only came with veggies because the original potato dish had cream. I wish they had offered rice or a roasted potato because I always feel some carbs are necessary to round out a meal.
GL’s lobster was decadent and huge! Super soft and perfectly cooked. It was a large portion and we had quite a few appies, so he had his work cut out for him.
They didn’t have much for dessert that was gluten and dairy free so we finished with the sorbet and a decaf coffee. At this point we were so stuffed I can barely remember the desert but it was a light end to the meal.
Also they have an incredible mariachi band which played for about 60-90 minutes during our dinner. You can tip the band at the end if you like and the band alone was worth the price of dinner. Check their website to see which days they have mariachi as it changes throughout the year. And you definitely need a reservation and may need to book at least a week in advance if you’re coming during the high season.
Do not miss Hacienda San Angel Puerto Vallarta next time you visit Puerto Vallarta and be sure to look around the hotel afterwards!
