It was our last day on our trip to Whistler and we needed a quick but satisfying breakfast. We had a day of hiking planned so wanted to have an early start, but we also wanted to ensure we were well fed. The Green Moustache Organic Cafe suited our purposes well.
This restaurant is all gluten-free and vegan, which is perfect for people with our kinds of dietary restrictions. It is a cozy spot with a few bar-style seats on the inside and two or three small tables outside along the sidewalk.
We had the Rise and Shine Wrap and the Golden Kitchari. The wrap was a buckwheat wrap filled with hummus, toasted yams, vegan cheese and veggies. It was filling but the flavour was a bit underwhelming. They were out of avocados that morning, so maybe it would have been better had that been included.
The kitchari had basmati rice, dahl lentils, veggies, Ayurvedic spices and coconut flakes. It was similarly filling, but we also found it underwhelming in terms of flavour. It came with a small cup of tamari sauce which helped add some flavour (and it did), but typically we prefer dishes which can stand on their own without added condiments.
We also had a brownie for dessert. This was very nicely done. It had an intense and sweet chocolate flavour. The texture was soft and slightly chewy, which was perfect. This dessert was excellent and among the best we have had.
In general, The Green Moustache Organic Cafe was a healthy and filling option for breakfast, but it was not particularly delicious. We think this could be a missed opportunity. There are probably some different spice combinations the kitchen could consider to increase the flavour profiles without affecting the healthiness of their dishes. That said, their brownie was excellent and we will certainly be back to enjoy their other dessert selections.
