Today we decided to make the trek up Grouse mountain. You can hike the grind up, but we got tickets for the gondola and various sites around the mountain – something we had never done before.
We saw the grizzly bears, hiked around, saw the bird and owl show, took the chair lift up to the top and enjoyed the sun. There are lots of fun things to do up there! In the past we would do the grind, have a bite to eat and then download. But it’s definitely worth a day trip and would be a perfect place to bring visiting guests.
For lunch, we went to Altitude’s Bistro at Grouse Mountain. This is the main restaurant that’s open during the day, and there is also a more high end restaurant open at night (we will have to come back!).
The restaurant is a good size and has nice decor. They have a really big patio that is beautiful but they weren’t seating anyone on the patio when we visited for some reason. I think they didn’t have enough staff working.
We were hungry but not starving so we each grabbed a main. We asked about the gluten and dairy free options and there weren’t a ton. I wanted a salad and the only option for me was the Ground Bring Super salad with lentils, kale and seeds. I added a piece of grilled salmon on top. I was surprised how small the salad was and I wouldn’t say it was big enough as a meal, even with the added salmon. It was okay but nothing to write home about. Considering how many hungry people they serve after completing the grind, a larger, more substantial salad would be a great menu addition.
GL went for the Angus burger and fries. He said his burger was good but pretty standard fare for a burger. The fries were crisp and again pretty standard fare.
Overall we thought the meal was okay but nothing special. I was still hungry after my salad (and I wasn’t even starving to start) so that’s always disappointing to not feel satisfied after a meal out. And we were disappointed we couldn’t sit on the patio on a sunny summer’s day. We will probably be back as there isn’t really anywhere to eat (other than the concession) and maybe they will have more gluten and dairy free menu options at that time.
