The Iguana Restaurant Puerto Vallarta is shockingly similar to Hacienda San Angel and located about a block away. But this now hotel and restaurant was originally owned by Elizabeth Taylor and was her private residence in Puerto Vallarta back in the 60s and 70s when she was married to Richard Burton.
It’s such a stunning restaurant and slightly nicer decor than Hacienda in my view, though very similar.
To drink, I had the jalapeno basil margarita which is hands down the best margarita I have ever tasted. I still think about this drink. GL had the strawberry daiquiri which was so fresh and clearly made with real strawberries which usually isn’t the case. They have incredible cocktails here, do not miss them!
To start we had the ceviche and octopus, which were both incredible. The octopus is a must try.
For mains I had the angus filet and GL had the shrimp.
My filet was good but not spectacular. It was a little undercooked for my liking despite asking for it medium done. I loved the potatoes and veggies.
GLs shrimp were super tasty and had a unique chilli sauce which we haven’t had before.
For dessert we had a chocolate ganache which they said was gluten and dairy free. It was sort of a jello consistency which we weren’t expecting but we enjoyed it. The lemon sorbet was a nice compliment.
They had a mariachi band which was huge (maybe 13 musicians), all male, and very good. They played at 7pm for 20 minutes and 8pm for 20 minutes. The mariachi band was not as good as the one at Hacienda, maybe just because they didn’t play for very long, but we still enjoyed it. They did not come around asking for tips.
Overall we loved Iguana Restaurant Puerto Vallarta and would definitely return to try other dishes or for a special meal. This would be a great place to take our parents.
